Mohit Batra
Literary Agent and Bookseller
Mohit prefers being called a bookseller to a literary agent; for him, that is his eternal romance. He is the proprietor of Rajat Book Corner, the renowned Jaipur-based bookstore, as well as the man behind the initiative: A Book is the Smartest Hand-Held Device. Under this he has hosted numerous exclusively curated author conversations, collaborating with the biggest publishers in the country. In the past, he has partnered with the Taj hotels, Hilton hotels, and the Government of Rajasthan, to host these events in historic locations. He has also partnered with organizations like CII, CII-Yi, EO, FICCI FLO, etc.
Now he is spearheading Paper Sparrows, a literary agency under which he aims to introduce new—and some old—voices in publishing.
Being a third-generation bookseller, Mohit noticed a huge gap between what is being published and what needs to be published. He has been instrumental in bringing published authors to a ready audience at large book events. With the agency, he intends to do it the other way around: hand-pick voices from the audience and bring them to the table of some of the biggest publishers in the world. His vision is to create an immersive world of stories and art where the celebration of books—so delicate and dim in the present state of the world—is revived and, thereafter, never ceases.
